Better Buy in 2025: XRP, Dogecoin, or Bitcoin?
On Election Day, Nov. 5 last year, the total value of all cryptocurrencies broke an all-time record of $3.9 trillion. Such a break could be attributed to President Donald Trump’s pro-crypto stance and friendly policies that may likely follow now that his administration is officially in office. Between Nov. 5 and Jan. 17, XRP shot up by 539%, Dogecoin by 154%, and Bitcoin by 50%. The Trump administration is a positive catalyst for each of these popular cryptocurrencies for different reasons, but which one will be the better buy in 2025?

The Case for XRP: Friendly Regulation
To overcome this problem, Ripple created a global payments network known as Ripple Payments. To save on fees associated with the cost of changing one’s currency for international transfers, XRP is used in the transactions. The SEC sued Ripple in 2020, saying XRP is a registered financial security. The case was partially settled in August 2024, and the investors believe that this case may totally disappear with the arrival of the Trump team at the office.
The Case of Dogecoin: Elon Musk
It was in 2013 as a joke but rocketed into action in 2021 after Tesla CEO Elon Musk began talking up the digital currency on social media. For three years, Dogecoin stayed on the back burner until Nov. 5 when Trump was elected. Elon Musk’s influence reignited for Dogecoin and investors propelled it to a fresh 52-week high of $0.47. Still, there is real danger that this latest rally will end with a collapse of 90% or more.

The Case for Bitcoin: A U.S. Government Reserve
The aforementioned cryptocurrency had a market capitalization of approximately $2.05 trillion, accounting for over half its value for circulating cryptocurrencies overall. Yet the controversial election by Trump added fuel to Bitcoin’s rally in 2024 and might bring some prospective U.S. government Bitcoin reserve into play. Bitcoin bulls like MicroStrategy’s Michael Saylor are pushing the Trump administration to build a digital assets framework to pave the way for wider adoption.

The Verdict
XRP is the most interesting of the cryptos because it apparently has a legitimate use case inside Ripple Payments. However, potential upside for XRP does not depend on the success of the payments network for Ripple. Dogecoin is hostage to whims of speculative investors and best-case situation for upside in 2025 among Bitcoin – due to its decentralized nature, capped supply, and a very likely U.S. government reserve.
